Redinha is located rather close to Natal. Many people come here to enjoy the primeval beauty, calm waters and relaxed beach vacation.
Redinha

redinha-beachIt is the first beach north of the river Potengi. Redinha is still in the city of Natal; it borders with Extremoz. Redinha is in 10 km south from Jenipabu; many people going to Jenipabu go by Redinha.

Access: there are two ways to get to Redinha: over land or river. From Ponta Negra, the land road is about 10 km longer (and you will drive along the most crowded streets of Natal). Most drivers prefer the boat; the boat journey costs R$5 and it takes about 10 min to get their (after you board). There are two boats sailing; on busy days, you will wait up to 30 min to get aboard. A bridge between Praia do Forte do Praia da Redinha is been reconstructed.

There are some versions as to the origin of the beach name. Redinha stands for "small net" in Portuguese, and some say that the name originates from the lots of nets that the fishermen put along the beach. Though others suggest that it was named by Portuguese settlers who came from a city in Portugal also called Redinha.

Redinha grew on the River Potengi and the Atlantic Ocean; from its first day and till today, the place lives on fishing. Here you can find several kiosks that offer fried fish and cold beer.

Redinha is enclosed by reefs, so the waves are rather small. Try to avoid the zone near the river, as the garbage thrown into the river is taken by the water back by the sea and gather on the sand.

At the Redinha beach, there are lots of "barracas" providing food, drink and umbrellas. Also, you can find here one of the largest Aquariums in Brazil, the Aquarium Natal.
