Boqueron
boqueron-beachLocals and tourists happily trip whenever they can to Boquerón, which is the village, the beach and the bay at the same time. It is rather small, quaint, bright and lively. It is a splendidly spontaneous mixture of food stalls, souvenir stands, open-air dining places, dive shops, and fishmongers.

Boquerón is located on Boquerón Bay, a long stretch edged with palm trees, mangroves and thick tropical plants that hide several 50 species of exotic birds coming from their usual sanctuary in the near Boquerón Nature Reserve.

And the beach is an inviting stretch of white sand, which amazes guests. On a calm day, when crowds of people are out of here, you will consider yourself to be the only owner of the whole landscape of blue sky, emerald sea waters and gleaming coral sand.

Though people do gather at the beach – particularly on weekends and holidays – and the major public facilities are waiting for them: picnic tables, lodging, bike rentals, courts, small shops, SCUBA diving, snorkeling and plenty of other water sports.

If you are an adventurous person, then try to go south on the coastal road. You should try not to miss Los Morrillos, a series of huge reddish mineral cliffs that are more than 200 feet in the deep purple-blue sea.

You may get to Los Morrillos by driving or hiking the Cabo Rojo National Wildlife sanctuary. You should also observe the sea hitting the cliffs below and the solitary Cabo Rojo lighthouse erected in 1881.
