Rincon Bay
rincon-bayRincón stands for “corner” in Spanish, and it really occupies a distant corner at the westernmost part of the island. Such location offers you an ideal place from which you may view the splendid tropical sundowns as they plash over the wide sea surface.

In 1968 the World Surfing Championships was held in Rincón, and since that time it is regarded as the surfing capital of the Caribbean. Numerous international surfers have tried out the rough and furious offshore tides; and many have stayed in the village and developed an emigrant subculture.

Rincón sprawls about the rough Atlantic and the calm Caribbean, and its 6 beaches offer the best of these two worlds. The city’s public beach is particularly well-liked among families who relish its serene and pure blue waters, and great parking spaces, public toilets and food stalls. And if you are tired of swimming, snorkeling or sunning here (what is rather unlikely), you may wander along the beach and collect seashells and sea glass.

The closeness of the Mona Passage, the winter main route for migrating humpback whales, turned Rincón into a perfect place for whale watching.
